History
Variety Woods & Greenheart Ltd (VWL) is a Guyanese family owned and operated Company incorporated on May 14, 1986. Its registered office is at 99 Laluni Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, Guyana. The Company is headed by Chairman Mr. Sheik Niamatali, MS with his son Mr. Rommel Niamatali as Managing Director.
The Company is recognized as a strongly capitalized, experienced and viable corporate entity with a history of competent and responsible timber harvesting practices, and an outstanding record of optimising value from the forest resources at its disposal. Its corporate behaviour has demonstrated diligence at all levels.
Approximately (50) persons are employed at its integrated logging/saw-milling operations located at Bamboo Landing on the left bank of the Berbice River some 240 Km south of New Amsterdam and 13 km north of Kwakwani and at its Georgetown office.
The Company has for more than (30) years been engaged in tropical forest resource management and timber utilization. It has been in the forefront of promoting and marketing Guyana’s hardwood timbers and added-value products locally, regionally and internationally and has earned the distinction of a reliable producer/exporter of high-quality products.
The feedstock/raw material for Bamboo Landing operations is predominantly sourced from its own forest concessions. VWL also sources small quantities of legally harvested logs and timber products from other suppliers.
The Company maintains up to date records of all its legal instruments which confers, on the company, the right to conduct forest management operations within defined boundaries of forest concessions awarded by the Guyana Forestry Commission.
VWL’s forest operations are supported not only by a team of technical and competent personnel but also by a mechanized fleet of logging and service vehicles including log transport. This ensures production efficiency, limits forest degradation and maintains ecosystem integrity.
Its Sawmill is well equipped to convert logs into primary sawn timber but the further processing of tropical timbers into a variety of products for various end use applications from heavy engineering, the construction sector and furniture manufacture.
VWL acknowledges that its human resources are its most valuable asset, and constantly trains and retrains its workforce to make them capable of being responsible individuals, who contribute to achieving the sustainable management of Guyana’s forest resources, high levels of quality control and occupational safety and health.
VWL is committed to responsible principles in all aspects of its operations and has formulated procedures and implemented practices with this in mind. As such, the effective oversight and implementation of these practices, is the responsibility of the company’s management.
